A couple of months after finding the school history above, in the files of the Hopedale Community Historical Society at the Bancroft Library, I was going through scrapbooks of newspaper clippings at the library and found that many years earlier, Rachael Day's sister-in-law, Lucy Day had written a school history.
In his History of the Hopedale Community published inAdin Ballou wrote that the failure of the community went beyond its financial bankruptcy. Although he cited poor planning, lack of resources, and the rigidity and inflexibility of the founding Constitution as factors, he believed the community's primary failure was a moral one.
